A letter from Irma

Irma Solórzano

"Soap and water never killed anybody. Start there."

I grew up on the shore of Lake Pátzcuaro, the oldest girl of nine. My mother, Chela, kept a house for eleven with a bar of soap, a bucket, lemons, salt and the sun. She never bought a cleaning product in her life.

At nineteen I came to California, and for thirty years I cleaned other people's houses: little apartments, beach houses in Newport, a doctor's house with marble floors. I learned which cleaners ruin expensive things, and which cheap ones are perfectly safe. This book is all of it.

Mija, mijo —

Make Mix 1 tonight. Two minutes, about a quarter. Wipe your counter. If this book doesn't earn its place under your sink in 30 days, write to me and you'll get every dollar back.

Con cariño, Irma
